Intellectual Property Patents And NDA
Failing to protect your innovation is simply doing free R&D for your competitors; technology without legal armor is merely an inspiration, not a property.
A brilliant innovation you discover does not belong to you unless you fence it in legally. Intellectual Property (IP) management transforms the abstract values produced by your brain into tangible assets that can be added to the balance sheet. Patents, Trademarks, and Trade Secrets are the legal minefields that prevent your competitors from trespassing on your territory.
However, protecting an idea doesn't always mean publishing it (patenting). Sometimes keeping it a secret is more powerful than obtaining a patent (e.g., the formula for Coca-Cola). During the development phase, the primary weapon to prevent leaks is the Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA). Whether sitting at the table with an investor or making a deal with a subcontractor, showing a technical drawing without signing an NDA means leaving the future of the company on the table.
