Concurrent Engineering
Working in sequence is an industrial illusion; a company that wishes to bend time must seat R&D, production, and procurement at the same table simultaneously.
In traditional manufacturing, departments operate like a relay race. The designer draws and passes the baton to the engineer; the engineer plans and passes it to procurement. This sequential method fatally prolongs the time-to-market. Worse still, disasters—such as discovering that a designed part is unavailable in the market or incompatible with the assembly line—are only noticed at the very last stage.
Concurrent Engineering is an architecture where all these processes are executed in parallel. While the design is still on paper, the production department begins mold preparations, and procurement starts sourcing raw materials. This approach not only cuts the timeline in half but also resolves potential crises before the seed is even planted. It is an integrated battleground where interdepartmental walls are torn down, and everyone can envision the end of the process from the very beginning.
