Active Listening And Nonviolent Communication

Remaining silent does not equate to listening; most people wait for their turn not to understand the other person, but merely to prepare their own response.

In the corporate world, the root cause of conflicts is rarely a lack of data, but the psychological poisoning of data during transmission. Accusatory language instantly shuts down the counterpart's analytical thinking capacity and triggers defensive mechanisms. In such a scenario, it no longer matters how justified or logical the message is. The Active Listening and Nonviolent Communication (NVC) model is a set of protocols designed to bypass these psychological barriers, ensuring that information and requests are transmitted in their purest form, encountering the least resistance.

This communication engineering consists of four sequential stages. The first step involves making an objective observation, as if viewing a camera recording, devoid of personal interpretation. In the second step, the feeling generated by this observation (anger, frustration) is expressed without assigning blame. The third phase identifies the unmet universal need (trust, predictability) underlying that emotion. Finally, what the counterpart should do is presented as a clear, actionable, and positive request. This formula transforms the accusation "You always make mistakes" into a strategic demand that serves to repair the system.
