360 Degree Performance Appraisals

Unidirectional evaluation merely reflects the hierarchy of power; to see the holistic topology of truth, light must be reflected from every angle.

Classical performance appraisal systems are built on a one-dimensional axis where only the manager grades the subordinate. This allows subjective judgments (bias) to infiltrate the system and leaves the employee's blind spots undetected. The 360-Degree Performance Appraisal analyzes an individual's performance using multidimensional data from superiors, subordinates, horizontal peers, and sometimes customers.

This architecture measures not only business outcomes but also leadership style, communication skills, and team alignment. How destructive an employee—who appears stellar to a manager—might be to their horizontal teammates is only revealed through this networked feedback system. The results must be utilized not as a grading mechanism, but as a developmental calibrator to enhance individual self-awareness.
